On 16 October 2026, 28 learners from Cherry Hills International School took part in the Independent Schools Association of Zambia (ISAZ) U9 Mini Volleyball Tournament at the Italian School of Lusaka.
The Cherry Hills contingent comprised a boys' team of eight and a girls' team of six, with 14 supporters from Years 2 to 6. The group arrived at around 12:20 pm, ahead of a coaches' briefing.
The tournament opened with schools standing together to sing the national anthem. Mr Mbatata, the event coordinator and Head of Sports at the Italian School of Lusaka, welcomed the participating schools alongside the school's Head of Primary. Matches began at 1:00 pm.
Teams from five schools took part: the Italian School of Lusaka, Baobab College, EARK International School, Cherry Hills International School and Martin House Trust School.
Mr Sikute, Cherry Hills' Sports Coordinator and coach, described the tournament as part of the school's sports development programme. It gave players practical match experience and opportunities to develop volleyball skills, teamwork, communication, cooperation, confidence, discipline and fair play.
The learners enjoyed the experience, spending time with friends and meeting new people from other schools. They remained focused throughout the matches.
At the end of the tournament, all teams assembled again. Mr Mbatata said he was impressed with all the participating schools. Mr Sikute recommended continued participation in inter-school galas and regular volleyball training to build on the experience.
